Today I'll be painting a beautiful group of iconic River Red Gums. These trees line many of Australia's inland river systems. River Gums (eucalyptus camaldulensis) are unique trees, with each one having plenty of it's own individual character. This makes it a fantastic subject for the artist to derive inspiration from. I will be using thick oil paint and palette knifes, working direct from the subject (en plein air) and painting on a large stretched canvas. I will explain my palette knife techniques and my thoughts on composition as I go. Later on, I will do some finishing touches in the studio and explain my reasoning for this.
