The UN Security Council has received a horrific briefing from a civil society representative in the Democratic Republic of Congo on the depravity of armed groups operating in the country's east. The leader of the rights group shared the testimony of a Congolese woman, twice kidnapped by two different armed groups, repeatedly raped and forced to cook the internal organs of human beings in order to feed herself and fellow prisoners. The Council held a regularly scheduled briefing on the deteriorating security situation in the country after an escalation of armed group activity including a resurgence by the once-defeated M23 that has markedly worsened the security situation in recent months.
