Thousands of people danced in the heart of downtown Toronto on Sunday 4th August, 2019.
Maumere dance is inspired by the folk song Gemu Fa Mi Re. Gemu Famire originally was a welcoming song for visitors to Maumere, a city in East Nusa Tenggara province, Indonesia.
Maumere dance is usually done by a large crowd such as troops or communities in big events all over Indonesia and overseas.
Due to its catchy tune and easy moves, a lot of people, who at the beginning were taking videos using their cellphones, decided midway to move their bodies and follow the crowd.
Some people who danced that Sunday claimed that this was the largest crowd of the Maumere dance overseas, attracting an estimated 2,000 people. #SsantosotjVideos
