Diagnosed with a moderate sensorineural #hearingloss at the age of 5, Steve had an ongoing battle with accepting his hearing loss and #hearingaids throughout his childhood. After leaving school and trying to hold down a job, it became more apparent that Steve could no longer cover up his hearing loss. Having lost his hearing aids in his 20s – he went into Australian Hearing to see about getting a new set… Fortunately he was also offered a job in administration and hearing aid repairs. This career change led to him eventually completing his degree and then Masters in #Audiology in 2005. Since then, Steve has worked as a clinical Audiologist in government and private settings, with manufacturers, as well as owning his private practice.
At Yarn Night, Steve chats about his life story as a reluctant hearing aid user to eventually finding himself as a practicing #audiologist. Specifically touching on the difficulties, but also opportunities his hearing condition has offered.
