The leader of the mercenary Wagner Group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, has released a defiant audio statement; his first public comment since he told his troops to stand down during their march on Moscow at the weekend.
In the statement, Prigozhin denied that his march was one of mutiny, and instead claimed to be trying to right a wrong, after a number of Wagner troops were killed by Russian military forces.
“We started our march because of an injustice,” Prigozhin said in the 11-minute audio. "Civilians came out to meet us with Russian flags and Wagner emblems, they were happy when we arrived and walked past them."
