Enjoy a few highlights of a journey from New York to Washington DC on board the Acela Express. The route from Boston to Washington DC via New York is Amtrak's North-East Corridor. The high speed Acela Express operates on this line with a highest speed of 150 mph, but it reaches this speed very briefly on two sections only between Boston and New York. On the other hand between New York and Washington, the top speed reached is 130 mph for quite a few long sections.
I boarded the 08:00 am train from New York Penn Station and it reached Washington Union Station at 10:55 am. On the way we halted at Newark Penn Station, Metropark Station, Philadelphia 30th Street Station and Baltimore Penn Station. It was an interesting journey altogether and a few sights can be seen in the video.
While leaving New York itself, we enjoyed a nice parallel action with a PATH (Port Authority Trans Hudson) train. After halting at Newark Penn station you can have a look at how we pass Newark Liberty International Airport station at good speed. At Metropark station I switched on the speedometer app on my phone and captured the acceleration from 0 to 108 mph before doing some rapid braking. We pass Trenton Transit station also at good speed before passing over the Delaware River, where you can see bad luck as another train crosses, blocking the view. Between Philadelphia and Baltimore, there are quite a few scenic rivers, and some of the bridges are quite low over the water. Finally the last part is also great as we slowly enter Washington Union Station, we are parallel to a Washington Red Line Metro train.
The other part of the route from Boston to New York was done the previous day and has already been uploaded by me on YouTube.
