Jhandewalan Mata Mandir

Jhandewalan Mandir is an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Maa Aadi Shakti (avatar of goddess Maa Durga). The temple is located on Jhandewalan Road on the way to Karol Bagh, Delhi, India. The name Jhandewalan was given during Shah Jahan’s reign, due to the prayer flags or ‘jhandas’ being offered.

The upper level of the temple has the idol of Mata Jhandewali with the idol of Saraswati and Kali. There are idols of other Gods also at the same level. At the ground level, the original idol of Jhandewali Mata is there where people perform Puja. There is also a mesmersing shiv mandir alongside for performing Shiv puja in the adjoining area at the lower level itself.

Aadi Shakti Ma Jhandewali is incarnate of goddess Maa Durga. She represents the power of the Supreme Being that preserves moral order and righteousness in the creation. She wears red, holds multiple weapons and rides her vehicle (the tiger), all symbolizing her tremendous and unlimited power which She uses to protect virtue and destroy evil.
