Chatar Singh Ji works in a private bank, as an office boy(off-role). He is paid a pittance of around Rs. 10,000 per month.
On March 4, 2020, he approached SBI Bank in his village to make a fixed deposit after receiving proceeds of Rs.1,17,000.00 from Sahara India.
Instead of issuing a single fixed deposit for the entire sum, as requested by Mr. Chatar Singh, the branch manager at SBI Bank, Naharmangra decided to issue a fixed deposit of Rs. 55,000.00 and another 60000.00 were invested in a traditional insurance plan (requiring regular premium payments) of SBI Life Insurance under the guise of a one-time investment in an SBI Life insurance policy.
