Rogers Tree Peony has bust into flower in mid spring here in Caerphilly (in the UK), it looks and smells beautiful.
This tree peony has been growing outside in all the weather we can get on our hillside location in south Wales - quite a lot of wind from all directions, heavy rain, some glorious sunshine and some winter frosts.
Every spring it busts back into life and into flower with a delicate sweet perfume too.
It grows much taller than bush peonies with woody stems currently about 2 metres / 6 foot high ... I think it has been there for about 10 years. It does get a little dappled shade around midday, but gets plenty of sun otherwise.
We just trim off any dead growth from last year when the buds start to grow in spring, but that only take 10 minutes ... and about that is all we do to it ... apart from standing and looking at it every spring, with a big smile.
It is a grafted plant, and we do get short 'sucker' shoots around the base of the plant ... some people would remove them to allow all the plants energy to go to the tree part of the plant - but we leave them and enjoy a second show of Pink / red flowers lower down the plant at ground level.
