On November 19th, 2024, The Youth Café, in partnership with Riara University and with the support of the Global Democracy Coalition (GDC), hosted a pivotal event titled "Empowering Democracy: Civic Participation, Digital Innovation, and Climate Change Governance." Held at Riara University and streamed globally, the event brought together thought leaders, postgraduate students, and key stakeholders to explore the urgent need for democratic responses to climate change and the role of digital innovation in shaping governance. The discussions centred on how civic participation and digital tools can empower democracy, improve governance, and address the pressing climate crisis. Key highlights included inspiring keynote speeches by experts in governance, technology, and climate change, panel discussions on the role of digital tools in enhancing transparency and participation, and an interactive climate change governance simulation aimed at building negotiation and decision-making skills. Attendees were also provided with actionable strategies to empower youth and stakeholders in addressing governance and climate justice challenges. This event was a critical step in advancing the conversation on governance and climate change, equipping individuals with the knowledge and tools necessary to drive meaningful change.
