The number of COVID-19 cases are increasing exponentially in Chennai and following a number of complaints and media reports, the government instructed private hospitals to increase the number of beds and charge only as per the fixed rates. The Quint contacted private hospitals and found that the numbers on the government website didn’t match with ground reality. The reason stated by many hospitals was that though there are beds available, they are not functional because there are not enough doctors and medical staff.
