Hi everyone! After three weeks a brand new video. Due to the terrible accident in Voorschoten 1.5 weeks ago this video was postponed seven days. Out of respect for those involved in the accident and the family of the crane driver who died in that accident. As you might see this video will also lead us via the place of the accident (recorded on the 10th of March 2023). Another reason why I postponed this video.
ProRail is restoring the infrastructure in Voorschoten as we speak. In the beginning of next week there will be trains running on the route Leiden - Den Haag again.
Are you ready for a Dutch winter? Today we get to ride a VIRM with 8 carriages from Amsterdam towards Roosendaal. A ride with snow, a bit of sun and later rain. Enjoy!
0:00 Amsterdam Centraal
We start the ride in Amsterdam. Today it's snowing in the north part of the Netherlands. With big temperature differences in our small country. It's freezing in the upper levels of the country and it far above freezing point in the south where we are heading.
So it's a white world outside. Enjoy the view! This a one you won't get much in our sea climate anymore.
5:06 Amsterdam Sloterdijk
10:35 Halfweg-Zwanenburg
12:55 Haarlem Spaarnwoude
14:34 Haarlem
Arrival at Haarlem station. Before we arrive here we pass the Spaarnebrug. This is a bridge that can be opened in two sections. The part without wires towards the workshop can be opened separately.
The line Amsterdam - Haarlem is the oldest train line we have in our country.
20:40 Heemstede-Aerdenhout
26:11 Hillegom
31:35 Voorhout
34:35 Leiden Centraal
Slowly the snow is melting when we approach the south. Temperatures are rising and the snow that is falling is slowly turning into that wet stuff we call rain. fortunately you'll see a bit of sunshine in Leiden as well. I forwarded the 5 minute stopover for you. Make sure to wave for the camerashot!
40:05 De Vink
41:47 Voorschoten
The location of the tragic accident a week and a half ago. My thoughts and prayers go out to all those involved and the relatives of the crane operator who died in the accident.
44:38 Den Haag Mariahoeve
45:34 Den Haag Laan van NOI
48:49 Den Haag HS
Second stop in The Hague (Den Haag in Dutch). I cut out the two minute wait at this station.
52:13 Den Haag Moerwijk
53:05 Rijswijk
54:42 Delft (Update 7)
A few weeks ago you got Delft Update 6 from me. Now there's another video. Do you spot any differences? At Delft station you can see two kind of overhead wire systems. On the older tracks the conventional power lines. On the new tracks power rails are installed.
58:41 Delft Campus
First ever station in The Netherlands that is fully powered by solar. All systems (accept the train and signals) work on solar power. More of this in the future please!
1:02:44 Schiedam Centrum
1:07:09 Rotterdam Centraal
Arrival at Rotterdam Central Station. Another short cut in the video skipping the three minute wait. Not much to see there.
1:11:49 Rotterdam Blaak
Above the tunnel you'll find the famous cubical houses from Rotterdam.
1:15:44 Rotterdam Zuid
1:16:25 Rotterdam Stadion
From this point on we'll encounter multiple temporary speed limits on the route. Time for ProRail to get some work done if you ask me. Especially when delayed those speed limit are really annoying.
1:17:44 Rotterdam Lombardijen
1:19:16 Barendrecht
Temporary speed limit in place here as well. Finally if you ask me. Really annoying. I know. But the tracks are so bumpy in this station. I reported them multiple times before. Again: time for ProRail to do some maintenance.
1:21:01 Kijfhoek
On the right side you can see the Kijfhoek. This is the biggest shunting yard for freight train in our country.
1:23:21 Zwijndrecht
1:24:40 Dordrecht
Small delay at arrival here because of the late departure from Blaak and the speed limits.
1:29:50 Dordrecht Zuid
1:33:30 Moerdijkbrug
The bridge we drive over is called the Moerdijkbrug. Really nice to be driving trains on. Even more spectacular is the one on the right for the HSL. That is called the Brug Hollandsch Diep.
1:34:58 Lage Zwaluwe
Heading right towards Roosendaal from here.
1:38:53 Zevenbergen
Just before Zevenbergen another speed limit. Number four on our route. Thank God this is the last.
1:43:01 Oudenbosch
1:46:17 Roosendaal
Arrival at the final stop for this video. I hope you liked the journey through snow and rain. Typical Dutch winter. Haha. We don't see many snow days in our country anymore since winters are getting warmer and warmer with climate change.
I hope you have enjoyed this new long ride. Have a good new week and see you all back in about two weeks. Cheers! :D
