Hybrids aren't just for smaller compact cars anymore. It took a while, but the midsize-sedan class has finally caught on to hybrids. The 2017 Ford Fusion Hybrid runs strong against foreign competitors like the Accord and Camry Hybrid models. We've got five reasons why you may want to choose the Fusion Hybrid over the others.
Drive
Once we got behind the wheel, the Fusion exceeded our expectations and provided a really nice drive. Powering this hybrid is a 2.0-liter gasoline engine paired with an electric motor for a total output of 188 horsepower. That's ample passing power, and when putting it through turns and corners, you'll find the Fusion makes for a confident drive.
Interior Features
Inside, the Fusion receives a standard 4.2-inch screen, which also comes with Ford's SYNC interface system -- but if you can upgrade to the voice-activated SYNC3 system, we highly recommend it. We found it to be quicker and bit more responsive. But regardless of the system you choose, you'll be glad to know there's standard Bluetooth and a rearview camera.
Hybrid Fuel Economy
You wouldn't be in the hybrid market if gas mileage wasn't a top priority. The Fusion Hybrid delivers an impressive 43 miles per gallon in the city. Combine that with a sticker price of just over $25,000 to start, and you're about to do some serious saving.
Styled Right
Have a good look at most hybrid and eco-friendly cars on the road these days -- they lack style. Well, the Fusion goes against the grain in this department. Connecting you to the road are beautiful standard 17-in wheels that flow with the car's fastback shape. Up front, the wide grille provides an aggressive look. In the rear, the Ford designers finished sharp and clean.
A Fusion for All
We drove the Fusion Hybrid version, but there's also a Fusion Energi, an EcoBoost gasoline option and even a plug-in hybrid. You can try searching, but you won't find any midsize sedan out there with those type of engine options. Bottom line: There's a version of the Fusion for just about every midsize-car need out there.
