This is a tried and tested hack that I’ve used so many times and whilst I have to point out that it might not work every time… it genuinely has worked every time for me 😂
The basics are:
✈️ Airlines like Ryanair and Wizz Air actively give travellers who don’t pay for seats the worst seats on the plane
💺 Because of this, when check in opens 24 hours before your flight (it opens earlier if you’ve paid for a seat) it’s likely you’ll get a middle seat, a seat in the middle of the plane or towards the back, and/or they may well split you and your travel companion out
🙋♀️ Why? Well, you still have an opportunity to pay to change and so that’s exactly what they want you to do!
That’s why if you leave checking in much later, you’re more likely to get the GOOD seats that are left behind due to their expense 😍
What if a plane is overbooked?
🛫 Some airlines do overbook flights - this is due to there being an average 5% of passengers who don’t show up on the day.
🛫 Therefore there is a small chance that if you leave it very last minute to check in, you could find yourself without a seat.
🛫 This doesn’t happen often - and if it does, it doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t be able to fly, though the airline will have to find a passenger willing to move to another flight (they’ll get compensation too).
🛫 I tackle this by checking the available seats throughout the day - I often find there’s just good seats left around 8/9 hours out!
