STORYLINE
At least four Chilean high-school students were arrested after an unauthorised protest march to demand educational reform descended into violence on Wednesday.
Protesters and police traded blows on the streets of the capital, Santiago, with riot police using batons and water cannons to try to disperse the protesters.
Chilean students started their protests to call for free quality education in 2011.
They say the country's educational system fails young people with its poor quality public schools and expensive private universities.
Their large protests initially raised expectations for profound changes - but few students have seen real benefits
The Chilean government plans to raise about one (b) billion US dollars in taxes for education - but students say that's not enough.
Meanwhile, the tactics used by police to control their protests have raised criticism from humanitarian organisations such as the Institute of Human Rights.
Last month, a student at the University of Santiago lost his sight in one eye after being hit by tear gas.
