Recently I was contacted about strange behavior exhibited by large birds in a cornfield. Since I was not readily available to check it out, a birding buddy drove to the location. He confirmed a pair of "ground nesting" ospreys. Today he and I shot pictures and video of the osprey near and on their ground nest.
Note: Ospreys normally nest in elevated areas. This is very unusual behavior for osprey. The birds may be young and attempting their first nest. There is a possibility a recent storm blew their first nest off a cell phone tower.
