CENTRAL SAANICH -- For the first time in recent memory police from Central Saanich spotted a cougar with their own eyes early Thursday.
The spotting is one of several in the last 48 hours. Just before midnight Wednesday another cougar was spotted near the intersection of Quadra and Mackenzie. Less than an hour later there was a third sighting a few blocks away.
Central Saanich police receive several calls regarding cougar sightings but Thursday was the first time police were able to confirm the spotting.
Saanich police also receive similar calls and say the cougar sighting Thursday are likely in response to the same cat.
Despite the recent spike in sightings there haven't been any reports of attacks.
Conservations Officers say the animals are a reality on Vancouver Island. Resources are in place to ensure appropriate action if a cougar were to attack.
