A volcano in Indonesia has erupted on the nation’s island of Java.
The volcano spread a mixture of rock and lava two kilometres down its slopes.
The eruption spewed a column of hot clouds more than 100 metres into the air and blanketed nearby villages with ash.
Located on the densely populated island of Java, Merapi is the most active of the more than 120 volcanoes across the country.
A 2010 eruption killed 247 people and forced the evacuation of 20,000 people.
