Electronic cigarettes (e-cigs) are often marketed as a smoking cessation tool, but some experts remain skeptical.
Public Health England (PHE) recently endorsed the use of e-cigs as a means to quit smoking traditional tobacco cigarettes. According to the PHE report, e-cigs are 95 percent less harmful than tobacco cigarettes. There is also no evidence that the devices are a "gateway" to smoking.
However, in a new analysis, Martin McKee, MD, DSc, and Simon Capewell, MD, DSc, argued that the available evidence on e-cigs is lacking and that many questions still remain about the potential benefits and/or harms of e-cig use
