Our short visit to Peaks of Otter, beautiful Abotte lake, scenic Blueridge parkway, and strenuous yet awesome Sharp Top mountain hike.
We started our day at beautiful Abbott lake right before sunrise. You can see the Sharp top mountain right behind; next, we went for a drive in the Blue Ridge parkway to see the beautiful sunrise at the Mills Gap point. After that, we went for the Sharp Top mountain hike. The hike was moderately difficult because of how steep it was, the round-trip distance was 3.2 miles but the elevation gain was 1400 ft+ which made the legs a bit sore. But, the view at the top was spectacular. We even saw a cute baby bear and a few deers on our way up.
The camping at the Peaks of Otter campground was great as well. It's right next to the sharp top trailhead.
NB: There are lots and lots of bugs at the sharp top peak. Fortunately, we were aware of this and had a little "bug-repellent shower" right before our hike that kept the bugs away. :p
There is also a beautiful town named Natural Bridge which is about 30 minutes from Peaks of Otter. We also visited there to see the Natural Bridge cavern which is the deepest cavern on the east coast.
