Italian emergency services have worked tirelessly to save elderly people and people with disabilities trapped in their homes after northern Italy was struck by the nation's worst flooding in a century. At least 13 people have died in the Emiglia-Romagna region while roughly 20,000 people have been left homeless. The crisis has affected 41 cities and towns, caused 23 rivers to burst their banks, and prompted 280 landslides.
