I travelled to Europe during shoulder season and had a blast- smaller crowds, cool weather, even empty streets sometimes! But it comes with a number of cons 🤡
Here’s why you should travel during shoulder season and avoid the peak season:
1) Europe can get extremely HOT 🥵 during summer especially around Italy. A lot of places still lack air conditioning which can make matters worse.
2) There are huge CROWDS and the number of tourists get out of hand during summer, especially at hotspots. Everything will be pre booked, there will be longer queues, higher wait times.
3) Everything is much more EXPENSIVE🤑 during summer.
4) Fall colours 🍂 are a sight to behold and you can only see them during October/November
Here are the cons of travelling during shoulder season:
1) The weather can get unpredictable! I swear it showed snow on the day I was landing and ultimately that day turned out to be the hottest day of the month lol. It can also get rainy, sometimes quite a lot. Umbrellas ☂️ and rain jackets hence will be your bffs
2) Days get really short in Europe especially after daylight saving, the sun will set 🌅 around 4-4:30pm
3) Low visibility 👀 especially after rain ☔️ can hamper sightseeing plans
4) For people who can’t bear the cold 🥶 at all- It can be a bit of a task to travel during fall
Here are some tips to keep in mind if you choose shoulder season to travel-
1) Be flexible with your itinerary, it might get difficult to take up outdoor activities when it rains so be ready with plan B
2) Go with the flow
3) Check your weather forecast a day before, thats when its the most accurate
4) There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad gear! Travel with an umbrella, waterproof jacket and waterproof boots to make your travels smooth
Happy Travels!
