NOTE: Stefania (“Stefcia”) GÓRSKA was a very popular prewar comedienne, dancer and composer, who also sung on stage of various Warsaw cabarets, however – with her weak and somewhat “squeaky” voice she was never a significant singer and only two recordings of her have been catalogued during her prewar career. That’s why I decided to upload this rather worn and scratchy side, belonging however to the rarest of the rarest prewar recordings of an old Polish cabaret. Another virtue of this recording is the fact, the performance in the studio was arranged for the recording exactly in the same way as it had been performed on stage of Qui Pro Quo. Even the orchestra is led by Iwo Wesby, who in that time was the Qui Pro Quo’s orchestra leader

In late 1920s Stefcia Górska was a chorus girl in Tacjanna Wysocka’s ballet, which was then contracted in the fabulous literary cabaret Qui Pro Quo in Warsaw (Where performed the most prominent stars as Hanka Ordonówna, Zula Pogorzelska, Mira Zimińska or Mieczysław Fogg and Karol Hanusz). Noticed as a special personality Stefcia Górska was offered a chance to perform solo and quickly she joined the elite of favorite comediennes in prewar Warsaw. Pretty, shapely and unbashed she specialized on stage in the “soubrette” characters, however she was also a serious ballerina and a very talented composer. This tango “Nasza jest noc” (Our Is The Night; 1930) – with beautiful lyrics written by the prominent Polish poet Julian Tuwin (aka Oldlen) - made an evergreen out of that cabaret song which also today is often sung in Poland.

Stefcia Górska’s second great hit was another tango “Głos z daleka” (A Voice From Afar; 1930) performed in Qui Pro Quo theatre by Chór Dana [ Ссылка ] .

After the 2nd WW Stefcia Górska was still very popular in Poland, she was often released in musical shows on air, she appeared in the comedy movies and on stage of the musical theatre Syrena in Warsaw.
