Rush Hour | Final Fantasy Tactics Critique - Part 1
Most people don't read descriptions these days, but here's where I explain this mess of a video. If you want to read this, please wait until after you finish the video for context.
This is a one-off half serious/half joke video. I wrote the script over the course of three days during my free time, and it started off as a serious script more in-line with my previous Final Fantasy critiques. However, I quickly realized that covering everything I wanted to cover would take more time than I was willing to spend producing a video.
Final Fantasy Tactics is probably my favorite game of all time, and I have entirely too much to say about it. Like I said in the video, an hour or two is not enough time to cover this beast, and I would be compromising too much to make this a 2-hour long video. Making a 10+ hour video, even split into parts, was out of the question. I don't have the patience for that.
So early in the writing process, the script just naturally morphed into a parody of all these video essays you see on youtube, where people spend over 4 hours talking about a single game. The goal was no longer to write a genuine critique of FFT, but to find a way to spend an hour talking about a single stage. Normally, when I write nonsense, I can just stream-of-conscious throw some crap together in an hour or two, but I spent 3 days researching and finding ways to glue all of this rambling garbage into something somewhat cohesive.
This plan wound up backfiring because editing this monster was a nightmare, which was the exact situation I wanted to avoid. Normally I'd just staple some clips together and call it a day, but sifting through hundreds of pictures, and constantly moving text around the screen slowed the editing process dramatically. I put more effort into this stupid joke video than anything else I've made for this channel, and it was all to make a mockery of my favorite game. Time well spent.
Anyway, don't take anything I said in this video seriously. It's mostly nonsense for my own amusement. There are some genuine segments, mostly my praise for the music and art, as well as my complaints with The War of the Lions, so it can be difficult to discern where the nonsense ends and the sincerity begins. Hopefully you get something out of it. If you learned something new or if you just cracked a smirk, then hey, it was worth the effort. And if you hated it, the good news is that there's no part 2. I value my sanity too much to keep this joke going.
Thank you for taking the time to read this description and for watching this video. I hope you enjoy the rest of your day!
