This is my 2022 NoBo thru hike of the Pacific Crest Trail
I started 10th May at Campo and my intention was to complete the trail in 100 days.
Although I didn't do a marathon every single day, I had to average doing so to complete within that time frame. Completing in 100 days needs commitment largely at the expense of missing time in towns with your trail family and generally not carrying out the usual activities like swimming in lakes, long lunch breaks, not avoiding the heat of the day and very few zeros [only 1]. Lazy evenings at camp just can't happen, there just isn't time for any of that, so it's not for everyone.
Like for everyone, it involves many days of repetition, like the tasks of getting and filtering water, cleaning and self-care, preparing food etc. I hope this film shows this, but also shows that it's a beautiful repetition, and not tedium.
This was a 3rd time lucky attempt at it after the 2 previous years of aborted starts through COVID, so I literally couldn't wait to get started.
I was so lucky this year, I managed, quite by chance, to meet at the terminus with someone I knew from the CDT who had the exact aspirations for the trail as I. The rest is history. The weather was perfect, the start date ideal, and I managed to get through all the fires before any trail closures (except the pre-existing Lionshead fire closure from previous years). Completing a thru-hike will always will be uppermost in my goals, everything else is secondary, and thankfully in actuality (spoiler alert) this was achieved in 98 days 5 hours. I wish I had the finance and time to take longer by starting a few weeks earlier, but in a way, I still believe that going hard is the way to ensure a near complete as possible trail.
Unfortunately I caught COVID whilst I was doing the brief narration at the start and end, so apologies for my gruff voice. Enjoy.
