From 17 to 19 February 2020, the Crawford School of Public Policy hosted the Australasian AID Conference (AAC). The conference brought together researchers from across Australia, the Pacific, Asia and beyond who are working on aid and international development policy (the AID in the conference acronym) to share insights, promote collaboration, and help develop the research community.
Education was one of the major themes at the conference. Among various issues in this sector, raising learning outcomes remains a huge challenge despite progress on school enrolments. On 18 February 2020, the DFAT’s Office of Development Effectiveness brought together four inspiring and informed speakers (Dr Lant Pritchett, Dr Elizabeth Cassity, Dr David Coleman and Dr Wendy Jarvie) who drew on research, key partner and practitioner experience to unpack the global learning crisis and what we need to do about it. Chaired by Dr Robert Christie, this panel looked at what works in education and what can be improved. The panel also discussed how the global conversation relates to the real work Australia is doing in the region.
