Edmonton Alberta, Canada where Building Trades Construction Unions are bound to registration collective agreements. Which divide them into 3 trade groups for the purpose of collective bargaining. All trades bargain at the same time upon expiration of their respective contracts. Though each trade as an autonamous contracts voted on by its own members. Its own members can not under the current law vote to take there own trade union on strike without at least 60 percent support of the total members of the other trades in there group. The Alberta Carpenters members and leaders believe this is wrong and in violation of our charter rights. The Carpenters do not want to be forced into contract arbitration so the fight is brought to the Alberta Labour Relations Board both Saturday and Sunday of the Labour Day long weekend. Where the Carpenters are requesting that they be given certification of there 97 percent strike mandate and allowed to serve 72 hour strike notice. In the true spirit of Peter J. Maguire the first General President of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America and father of labour day. Carpenters locals across North America are hammering on em everyday. Happy Labour Day from the people who brought you the weekend!
