Czech racer Ales Loprais posted a new post on his social networks, where he spoke about the tragic incident that happened at the 2023 Dakar Rally Raid. During the competition, Loprais ran into a spectator, because of which he died.
“We had already gone to bed, but then the commissars woke us up, saying that they had a video of our hitting a man. All this happened by mistake. A man tried to take a picture of a lady under a dune. He was injured and had a heart attack while being transported to the hospital. Human life was also destroyed de facto by my actions. But I have to say that I didn't know about it. None of the crew knew. We have onboard and external video cameras to prove it. However, this will not change the fact that human life has died out.
It was an Italian, but I don't even know his name yet. A 69-year-old fan who came to watch the Dakar. I want to express my most sincere condolences to his family and friends. This tragic incident will haunt me for the rest of my life."
