• Remove the bloom: Cut off the rose bloom to prevent the plant from using energy to bloom. 
• Keep the cutting moist: Put the cutting in water immediately and keep it moist at all times. 
• Change the water: Replace the water with fresh water every 3–5 days, or when it looks brackish. 
• Root the cutting: Rooting usually takes 3–4 weeks. 
• Plant the cutting: When the roots are 2–4 inches long, plant the cutting in a small pot of fresh potting soil. 
• Provide shade: Keep the plant in shade or partial sun until new shoots appear, then move it into full sun. 
• Be patient: It can take several years for a new rose plant to bloom. 
You can also use a rooting hormone to help the cutting root.
