CELTIC manager Ange Postecoglou says that he was well aware of Walter Smith's reputation from football even from the other side of the world.
The Aussie has been adding his words to the flood of tributes which have come in from all around the globe.
The former Rangers and Scotland manager died this morning at the age of 73.
The Celtic boss said Smith was a rare breed - and is sure that his lost will be felt the world over, not least in Australia because of the "strong expat community there".
Postecoglou said: "I guess in the era I grew up he was one of those people who you knew had great standing in the game even from the other side of the world.
"I can assure you his loss will be felt globally, and Australia absolutely because there’s a really strong expat community there from Scotland and the UK who will be saddened by his loss.
"We all try to live the best life we can possibly live and try to set the highest possible standards for ourselves in our profession and as people.
"It’s not easy but he’s one of a rare breed.
