History:
This was the last year the La Salle was manufactured. The 1940 La Salle was a very impressive car. In fact, it has often been said that this is probably the only car that was ever discontinued when sales were at an all-time high. La Salle, being considered the junior Cadillac, was taking too many sales away from the smaller Cadillacs. So management felt it would be wise to concentrate on a new series of Cadillac models for the next year and phase out the name La Salle with the 1940 car.

Two series were available. They were the Series 50, which was less expensive, coming in five body styles, and the Series 52 coming in the Torpedo body version and being offered in four new models.

Mechanically, both Series were the same. The engine compartment held a 322 cubic inch V-8 developing 130 HP at 3400 RPM. The fuel supply was a 22-gallon tank. Both series rode on 7:00 x 16-inch tires and had a 123-inch chassis.

The 1940 La Salle Special Convertible Coupe, referred to as Model 52, did not make its debut with the regular 1940 line but was offered as a short run mid-season model. This car wears an accessory grille guard, double white sidewall tires and wheel trim rings as its extra equipment.


About this Car:
This La Salle received a full, every nut and bolt, body off restoration by a Late AACA Judge to the Highest Standard years ago. Car runs very well and has been maintained in a Private State of the Art Collection Showroom. This La Salle is extremely rare with only 425 ever produced.
