Nepli Reserved Forest is located in Chandigarh, Haryana district. Saketri village of Haryana leads to Nepli Reserved forest. It is located at a distance of around 16 kms from Chandigarh city.
Nepli Forest Reserve is a part of Sukhna Wildife Sanctuary. This forested area comes under Shivaliks. Nepli Reserved Forest is quite revered as a natural Trek Spot. There are four nature trails ranging from 6 to 8 km in length and 12 traditional watchtowers and signages. A Rest House called Nepli Inspection house is another attraction which provides some refreshments to the visitors. The Nepli Inspection house surrounded by beautiful grassy lawns and flower beds. Nepli reserve forest serves as a comfortable adobe to a variety of flora and fauna species including 150 varieties of bird and mammal species like Sambar, Spotted Deer, Pangolin, Wild boar, Jackal, Small Indian Civet, Jungle Cat, Porcupine, Hanuman Langur, Rhesus Monkey, Indian Hare, Common-Mongoose, Squirrel etc. This forest is governed by Deputy Conservator of Forest, who permits entry to visitors. Trekking can only be done by seeking special permission from the Chief Wile Life Warden beforehand. The Trek is 8 km long and runs over three hillocks and has a steep gradient. It originates at Nepli Forest Lodge and teminates at Kansal forest Lodge. It is also an educative trek.
The forest areas are mostly around Sukhna Lake, Sukhna Choe and Patiala ki Rao. Near village Kansal, on the outskirts of Chandigarh towards the hills is a reserve forest, entry to which is restricted. One has to obtain an entry pass to see it. A large area of natural forest is preserved intact. More than 10,000 tourists visit this forest every year. Since this is a Reserve Forest, visitors have to give application/request letter to Conservator of Forests and Chief Wildlife Warden, U. T. Chandigarh for seeking entry permit.
Visitors are not allowed to stay inside the forest during night. The sanctuary remains open even on Saturday and Sunday but not on national holidays. There are no specific timings and entry pass should be taken by Deputy Forest Conservation.
