Erin O'Neill, NAUI Instructor Trainer, Women Divers Hall of Fame, shares why she is a DAN member. #EveryDiver
"It's hard to know where swimming stopped and diving began, as I was a competitive swimmer. It evolved into going underwater with early equipment back in the 60s, and eventually I became certified for the first time in the late 70s or 1980. It's hard to know exactly when I joined DAN. It was the "Diving Accident Network" when I first joined, and it was probably in the early 80s. As a longtime instructor, I've been teaching since 1982 or something.
I never had a reason to call DAN, but was always so glad that DAN was at my back. With a phone call, we can get someone who knows what they're really talking about to reassure us that we're doing the right thing, or alternate things we could be doing in the meantime to deal with an accident. It's such a valuable source of continuing education and advanced education. I just know that being a member of DAN will give me access to the latest. We really did pursue DAN membership for all of our students because it's so vital.
I'm Erin O'Neil, and that's why every diver should be a member."

DAN membership includes automatic enrollment in DAN TravelAssist® and this is only a brief description of the coverages available under that program. Refer to the DAN member benefit handbook for reductions, limitations, exclusions, definitions, and termination provisions. Coverage may vary by state or may not be available in all states. DAN membership alone does not provide coverage for costs of a dive accident; dive accident insurance must be purchased separately for each member.
