The Supreme Court on Wednesday pulled up the Centre saying that it had made the environmental protection law “toothless”.

The Court said that the provision under the CAQM Act which deals with penalties for stubble burning was not being implemented.

On October 16, the top court pulled up the Punjab and Haryana governments over the non-prosecution of violators found guilty of stubble burning while summoning the state chief secretaries to appear before it on October 23 for an explanation.

Meanwhile, officials in Ambala district of Haryana said that strict action was being taken against farmers found burning stubble.
