Had a rare and special weekend with my gorgeous wife on the "New" Wild Coast. Haga Haga and Morgan's Bay are not in the Transkei region of South Africa and so some would say they are not on the Wild Coast. But the Eastern Cape government is determined to market the entire coastline from East London to Port Edward as The Wild Coast.
Sam and I hiked from Haga Haga to Morgan Bay. It's an easy 12km hike that offers some spectacular landscape, magical forests and brilliant beaches. Much of it is like the Wild coast of the Transkei; the flora and the ocean are almost identical and as you get closer tot he Kei river, the landscape does emulate the undulating deep ravined hills forests and rivers of the Transkei.
The jury is still out as to whether Transkei veterans will call this southern stretch the Wild Coast... but no matter what you call it, it's a magnificent stretch of coastline that is very well worth a visit.
Sam and I came across jellyfish, Oyster Catcher eggs, a perlemoen farm, fishermen, a puffadder, beautiful flowers and painted rocks. It turned out to be an unforgettable day that we hope you enjoy as well.
