Lina Tayara caught up with Mahmoud Bennani from Africa50 Infrastructure Acceleration Fund at Platform Africa in Marrakesh on 22 June 2023 where he was a panellist on “Private Equity and M&A: Opportunities and Risk in Africa’s Digital Infrastructure”. Lina asked Mahmoud his view on data centres marketing communication.
Mahmoud Bennani: “We have seen important announcements regarding the capacities to be built in the near future. The issue is this marketing can have the tendency to artificially inflate the valuations we see in the market, which are very high. That will backfire on the sector because it deteriorates the expected returns from a private investor perspective. That’s why investors should do rigorous due diligence to assess the market and the assets to calibrate the expected return for them, to be proportional to the risk assessment they take when they invest in the sector.”
