Hi everyone, I filmed this walking tour on June 23rd at around 3:00 PM. This walk winds through Ciudad Vieja, Montevideo. I'm not sure exactly how far I walked. Probably around a mile (around 1.6 km). I started at the port. From there, I winded my way through Ciudad Vieja to Plaza Independencia.
On this walk, we'll see a number of Montevideo landmarks, historic buildings, and plazas including Administración Nacional de Puertos, Plaza Zabala, Plaza de la Constitución, Montevideo Metropolitan Cathedral, Gateway of the Citadel (Puerta de la Ciudadela), Sarandí walking street, Solis Theater, Plaza Independencia, and Palacio Salvo
This part of the city is filled with spectacular colonial and neoclassical. architecture. We'll also pass by plenty of kiosks, restaurants, shops, cafes, homes, and more. We'll see some beautiful street art and graffiti. Of course, we'll also see plenty of ordinary Uruguayan people going about their day-to-day lives in the capital city.
Ciudad Vieja (Old City) is the oldest part of Montevideo. This part of the city was fortified with a wall until 1829. The only remaining piece of this fortification is Puerta de la Ciudadela (Gateway of the Citadel).
