The technique of Fibreoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of swallowing (FEES) is demonstrated in this male patient one month after a right brainstem stroke. There is mild pooling of blue-coloured water sitting in the right piriform sinus with immediate cough and clearance. FEES was normal for thickened fluids and food. The patient returned to normal diet and treatment strategies included head turning to the right and gentle throat clearing after each thin liquid swallow.
