The recent boycott against IU, Girls' Generation’s Yuri, and NewJeans has completely backfired. Instead of damaging their careers, it has only strengthened the bond between these K-pop idols and their loyal fans. The boycott was sparked after these idols showed public support for the impeachment protests against South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, which led to his impeachment on December 14th.
IU, Yuri, and NewJeans were among the few K-pop stars who supported their fans by sending snacks, hot packs, and food donations to those participating in the protests. However, those who opposed the impeachment attempted to initiate a boycott, urging fans to stop buying from brands endorsed by these idols.
But in a surprising twist, this boycott had no impact on sales, with fans rallying to support the brands instead. The boycott movement ultimately backfired, and the idols gained even more support from their loyal fans.
In this video, we dive deep into how this K-pop boycott failed, the impeachment of President Yoon, and how the fans turned the tables. Watch the full video for all the details!
