Project Upiór uses digital resources to collect information on Polish folk beliefs. While phantasmagorical Slavic beings like phantoms, vampires and werewolves are known from literature – both the classical canon and contemporary pop-culture stories and video games – the first descriptions of them have been forgotten. Digitisation allows broad explorations, allowing the emergence of an incredible picture of the ancient Polish imagination and folk demonology, and first and foremost the rediscovery of a great number of unusual tales, which not only are helpful in interpreting ancient Polish culture, but also constitute ready material and inspiration for use by today’s artists.
