We're slowly but surely working our way through the various smallarms used by Imperial Japan during WWI and WWII, and today we talk about the Type 22 Muratas. The T22 Murata was Japan's first standard production military rifle to fire smokeless powder. It was also a very early repeating bolt action.
As usual, we talk a bit about the design/development, production numbers, service history, and how the Murata was quickly eclipsed by the famous Arisaka series.
Here we examine both the long infantry rifle and short cavalry carbine.
