The man who dragged a police officer 10 metres along the road with his car has been sentenced at the Supreme Court.
28 year old Stephen Bolaños was arrested last November after he failed to stop for police.
An officer then leaned into the car to try and take the key out the ignition when Bolaños accelerated and sped away. He was dragged him by his arm until he fell to the ground and later treated for a fractured wrist.
Bolaños subsequently pleaded guilty to ABH, dangerous driving and failing to stop for police. He spent 47 days on remand after his arrest.
It follows four previous drink driving convictions.
On Monday, Chief Justice Anthony Dudley sentenced Bolaños to 300 hours of unpaid work. He was also banned from getting behind the wheel until October 2025.
£2400 in compensation is to be paid to the police officer, at a rate of £200 a month.
Should he fail to pay, he will serve time in prison- with the fine to remain outstanding.
If he is caught driving during his ban, it will also mean an immediate custodial sentence.
Commissioner of Police Richard Ullger, said, “Violence against police officers will not be tolerated."
He added: “Anyone who assaults an officer should expect to be brought to justice."
