For proper explanation, Ohandu is a community in Ukwa East LGA of Abia State.
It's a riverine community occupied by the Ndoki Igbo Clan who are generally the Indigenous Owners of Ukwa East LGA of Abia State.
Ohandu is a very unique community that many have not heard of, the name is literally swallowed by her more popular neighbours like Akwete, Obohia and Azumini all in Ukwa East LGA.
Despite being hidden from the eyes of the public who pass through the Obehie-Azumini-Ukanafun Highway, Ohandu is richly blessed with her unique body of water and fertile land for agriculture.
The most unique thing in Ohandu is the fishing activities going on within its river. Although still crudely down with manual canoes, the fishermen are highly skilled as they adopt all manner of tactics to navigate the waterways.
The Ohandu river which according to the fishermen rises more in volume from the month of June connects to the West via the Imo River to Ngor-Okpala and connects via the East to Andoni.
Facts on the ground show that during the month of June downwards, the fishermen catch huge numbers of fish to the extent that they barely have buyers to move them to the nearby markets.
This community has the capability to tackle the problem of fish in Aba, the Commercial hub of Abia State. All they need is just a little footprint of development.
They need motorable roads, they need electricity because they have just electric poles that now serve as improvised trees for squirrels and other climbing animals.
They said that having Electricity will go a long way to helping them preserve the huge catch they make often which sometimes gets spoilt on completely smocked or dried which may not be the preferred choice of many.
