In a statement, the Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service KEPHIS Managing Director Professor Theophilus Mutui, noted that Kenya had gotten the notification for the approval to use vapour heat treatment for fresh mangoes, which was published by the European Union this year. This is in addition to the 2021 approval to use the hot water treatment approach. The move marks a big boost to thousands of farmers and exporters in the country who now have the leeway to export their fresh fruits either treated using vapour heat or hot water. Two years ago, the EU approved the resumption of exports from Kenya after tests showed reduced levels of pest incidence.
