Making Indian fry bread and making carne Asado Navajo tacos
Ingredients for marinated steak (carne Asada):
1 pound of steak (stew meat or skirt steak will do)
1 tsp of cumin
1 tsp of salt
1 tsp pepper
2 tsp of garlic minced or 1 tsp garlic powder
1 jalapeño or Serrano pepper to taste.
Juice of 1-2 limes
Ingredients for Indian fry bread:
4 cups of flour
3 tsp of baking power
1.5 tsp of salt
2.5 cups hot water
Enough oil to cover dough when frying.
Steps for steak:
Cut up steak to bite size pieces and marinate in the marinade ingredients for at least 1 hour.
Cool in a pan when done marinating.
Steps for fry bread:
Mix all dry ingredients together in a bowl
Slowly add the hot water and mix to make a ball of dough
Cover and set aside for 1-2 hours
Cut dough into even pieces and roll into a ball about the size of a gold ball.
Prepare a surface to roll out your dough with flour.
Also put flour on rolling pin
Roll out out each dough ball into a circular shape.
Heat oil to 350 degrees
Fry the dough flipping after each side is golden brown.
Making the taco:
When bread has been fried then it’s taco time
Add your steak and any other toppings( sour cream, cheese, etc) you would like and you are done!
You can also eat this bread with honey or jam or with just plain old butter!
