Our greatest pleasure is to find the correct speed and best possible sound of these recordings. We want results as close as can be to the music they actually played - with as little as possible damage by the beautiful and charming - but sometimes bad old recording technic.
in these early days of recording technology even "78rpm" sadly was no standard at all - as everyone thinks of course. They simply did not keep this speed or any other standard while recording! No chance for correct playback with nearly all of the 1920's records. Later in the 30s and 40s they got more precise - well, sometimes...
Today we can asume with a reason that the playback results on acoustic grammophones were simply THAT bad, that the technicians and also the musicians probably didn't care much about "correctness" at all. We all know that Argentina is famous for technical precision today. Also time on the discs was limited - so some good reasons to speed up. Research leeds us to the knowing of the correct keys and instrument tuning circumstances of the music PLAYING in these days, so happily we can reconstruct how they played it. Going back to the Victor recording company in the beginning of 1933 was also a step back for Fresedo back to the old chamber pitch which was practically A=435hz - as the bandoneons were tuned like this. For some unknown reason he switched back to A=435hz as he started recording for Victor, although in 1931 and 1932 he did record for Brunswick in A=440hz.
