This video demonstrates how easy it is to install your Water2buy water softener.
A water softener removes and eliminates limescale throughout the home saving you money annually.
Your water softener comes with plumbing fittings, an allen key and a transformer.
You’ll need need some braided hoses, elbow joints, pipe inserts, jubilee clips, two 15 mm pipes, a screwdriver, an adjustable wrench, a knife and a drill with a drill bit suitable for a 15 mm pipe.
Your water softener will need access to the mains water supply, access to a power supply and access to the drain.
First we will prepare the softener for install.
Remove the cover from the softener.
Remove the red clips so that the plumbing fittings can be fitted.
The plumbing fittings come in 1/2”, 3/4” and 1” sizes.
Take the fitting and apply the lube to end with the o-rings.
The fittings are now ready to be placed in to the control valve.
Make sure that the fittings are pushed in until you hear the click.
Put the red clips back to secure the fittings in place.
Next: Take note of the water directional flow arrows on the control valve.
You'll need to match these to your water flow direction.
This next step is only for models with bypasses attached.
Use the allen key to open the bypass valves, the valves are open when they are parallel to the piping.
turn the allen key fully clockwise to open the valves.
Check the brine suction hose connection and make sure it is hand tight.
A loose seal on the brine suction hose is the most common cause of a malfunction.
Next turn the mixing valve fully anticlockwise, failing to do so will result in your water not being fully softened.
The mixing valve can be used to adjust your water hardness.
Now we will attach the overflow fitting,
Remove the lid and the air pillow packaging inside,
Unscrew the over flow pipe and switch it to the outside as shown
To install the softener you will need to turn off your mains water.
The softener will need to be installed before the main water pipe branches off to your water storage tank.
Select a suitable section of pipework to connect your water softener to.
If your plumbing allows, it is easier to remove a section of pipe to work with.
The aim of this section of the install is to form a diversion in your water flow, which we will divert through the water softener.
Create a water flow diversion by installing suitable joints onto the pipework as demonstrated. You should match the joint size to your pipework and water softener connection size.
Make sure to follow your local plumbing codes when working with water pipework
After adding the new joints to the pipework re-attach it to the mains pipes
Next screw on the 2 water softener hoses and tighten with a wrench.
It is very important that you re-check the water directional flow arrows on your water softener before attaching the hoses.
Take the hose connected to the mains water and connect the other end to the inward directional flow on the water softener
Take the other return hose and connect the other end to the outward directional flow on the water softener.
Tighten both hoses with a wrench.
Next we'll prepare for the waste and overflow hoses.
Drill two holes wide enough to fit a 15 mm pipe through.
The overflow and waste hoses should lead to a suitable drainage location.
Never connect the waste and overflow hoses to the same drain.
Make sure the holes are at a lower level than the overflow and waster fitting.
Locate the the waste fitting, and connect a suitable length of 15 mm tubing, secure with a clip.
Locate the the overflow fitting, and connect a suitable length of 15 mm tubing, secure with a clip.
Now take the 2 pipes and feed them through the the two holes.
A minimum 15mm air gap should be left between the end of the hoses and the drain.
At this stage, Your water softener is fully plumbed in.
To ensure trouble free use secure the brine suction pipe inside the softener by lodging it at the side of the vessel. The filter end should be on the floor of the water softener.
Next fill the water softener with water softener salt, the salt level should be at a minimum 100 mm from the bottom of the softener and 50 mm from the top of the softener.
Add 4-5 litres of water into the salt tank.
Next plug in your water softener.
Turn on the mains water and check for leaks. We recommend checking for leaks after 1 hour and again at regular intervals.
Use a water hardness test, available from water2buy to check your hardness.
Use your owners manual to configure the settings on your water softener.
For maximum efficiency you will need to adjust your settings based on you water hardness and the amount of water you use.
