Finally...on our 3rd, maybe 4th, attempt, the Ballard Locks are reopened! With the weather lovely for what may be one of the last times we set off!
After what seemed like over a year, pedestrians were able to cross from one side of Seattle to the other, enjoy the parade of ships, and catch the Salmon on a salt water to fresh water salmon ladder.
This piece of Engineering by the Army Corp of Engineers has been featured on countless shows. This separates the fresh water of Lakes Union and Washington to the saltier waters of the Puget Sound. These canals can fit large boats and ferries and are also used for pleasure trips as seen in the video.
We have a really fun video after this one but were excited to show a simpler day out in the meantime :).
