Full day walking tour at a historic town of Shimoda, which first opened the port to the US in 1854 after over 200 years of seclusion policy. Starting from Izukyu Shimoda Station, let's start from a visit to Mt. Nesugata by taking a ropeway, enjoy the spectacular view of Shimoda port/bay, where seven black ships arrived, then walk to "Road Station Kaikoku Shimoda Minato", located by the port, where you can visit tourist info center, restaurants, farmers/fishers markets. Then, let's ride a boat tour of Shimoda bay . After that, walk to Perry Road, named after Commodore Matthew Perry, who negotiated the opening up of Japan with Black Ships. Perry Road is now a tourist place where many small shops and cafes along the canal side. Then walk to Ryosenji temple, where Shimoda Treaty was signed between USA and Japan. In Ryosenji, there is a Museum of Black Ship showcasing historical documents and history, which you may also enjoy. I hope this video makes you want to visit Izu and Shimoda. Enjoy!
