Porcelain is technically a category within the ceramic family. These mugs are typically more expensive, elegant, and have a smaller capacity. More often than not, they are white with thin malls that make them fragile. As such, it's recommended to handwash these cups.

Ceramic is any product made from a nonmetallic mineral, like clay, that's fired at a high temperature. Unlike porcelain, it's more accessible and comes in a variety of colors. Since it is a bit stronger, you can usually wash these mugs in a dishwasher.
